Winning the lottery, meeting your favorite celebrity, finding buried treasure… Rare happenings that we hear about but have never actually witnessed ourselves. They’re not impossible events; they’re just extremely improbable. Hunting for a Foot-Long Brookie

A foot-long native brook trout… the Holy Grail of wild trout fishing in Virginia. I’ve caught two of them in my life, but none this year. For over a month now I’ve been exploring new streams throughout Augusta, Rockingham, and Shenandoah counties with the hopes of landing a 12″ native brookie. The Valley is chock full of native streams, I’ve fished many of them but still have only scratched the surface. I’m finding more and more great trout streams that get little to no publicity, so do yourself a favor and never stop exploring! Here are the highlights from my adventures searching for a 12″ brook trout in the Shenandoah Valley:
